"@unmediterraneen" on social networks, Nicolas Lopez in real life, this real swissknife of the internet leads and shapes different platforms. Indeed, this 31 year old Marseille native is currently publications director for Ichtusmagazine.fr, art director and content creator in the Mediterranean lifestyle but has also developed 3 photographic collections inspired by Provence and the Mediterranean.

Let's go and meet this passionate man from the South.

Inside the interview

1. Can you introduce yourself in a few words

My name is Nicolas Lopez, I am 31 years old, I live and was born in Marseille. I am the director of publications for Ichtusmagazine.fr, art director and content creator in the Mediterranean lifestyle. I have also developed 3 photographic collections inspired by Provence and the Mediterranean. These pictures are for sale on the website.

2. Can you tell us about your Instagram account as well as your other social networks? Why did you start it, the sharing etc.?

My personal Instagram account is called Un Méditerranéen first of all because I have a passion for the Mediterranean basin, its history, its countries with strong identities, but also because I am a child of the Mediterranean. The idea from the beginning is to share my love for the south, its artisans and its good addresses, but also to convey a meaningful message about psychological, emotional or spiritual health so that people can find positive, inspiring and encouraging publications. Finally, I have developed with my collaborator (Angélique Gionti) Ichtus Magazine in 2019, then our creative studio Chambre Ichtus in 2022. I also have a much more personal account where I express my passion for well-being and spirituality: Altitude of Heart.

3. Have you always lived in Provence (Marseille)?

I lived in Montpellier for a few months for my literary studies, then 6 months in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, near Nice, for my first internship as a Community Manager. In fact, I have always lived in the south.

4. What do you use to film and take photos?I shoot with my iPhone 13 pro and for stills, I use a Nikon D3500, a gift from the family. By the way, I'm currently in the middle of an online photo training course to continue to learn more about how it works and to offer quality content.
5. What do you think is the most important strategy for success on social networks?First of all, I think that in order to be successful on social networks, you have to be there with a particular intention, i.e. a dream, a passion, or simply with the aim of sharing positive things to do good. Once we have our "why", we can define our "how", in other words: establish the editorial line. Secondly, I would say that there is no need to compare (or worse, copy) ourselves, because we all have unique personalities and gifts. It is therefore enough to work on them and develop them intentionally. This requires patience, consistency, rigour and a lot of time. When we enter into our calling, a fluidity takes place. It becomes natural. As far as I'm concerned, creating content or writing articles doesn't require any effort, whereas managing the financial part or the organisation does (fortunately for me, Angelique is very good at that).

"My inspiration comes from the encounters"

6. How do you find inspiration for your video content (music, images, themes...)?

My inspiration comes from the encounters I have, especially the artists and craftspeople who are featured in the magazine. The books I read or listen to also give me a lot of ideas and boost my energy. It keeps my mind constantly fresh and pushes me to create by trying to do something new regularly while keeping my identity, my paste. I also get a lot of inspiration from photographers' accounts that I enjoy following on social networks.

7. What do you think about the emergence of the reels?

The reels are good tools for creating, but I think it's a shame that a social network originally dedicated to photography can move into the video format to meet the needs of a voracious algorithm and counter the growing authority of Tiktok. I do it from time to time, because I think it's a good idea, but my real passion remains photography.

8. How do you organise the visits/shooting you do? Do you go to the location on purpose to make content or is it just visits?

The organisation of my appointments takes place in different stages. When I don't receive emails with requests for collaboration, I prospect by sending emails to professionals who only correspond to our universe, then come the phone call and the live appointment (where we like to bring flowers as a sign of respect) or zoom. We establish the partner's needs and determine if it is necessary to write an article, to take photos, and to propose an artistic direction with an adapted moodboard, choice of location, etc. We visit possible shooting locations beforehand to see how the light behaves. Finally, we set the dates for the shoot and for publication. There are also very spontaneous visits or we choose to publish out of pure passion.

9. Are there any people who inspired you to do what you are doing today on your account?

JaimeToutChezToi inspire me a lot, AD Italia, voyage voyage magazine, Paolo Abate, Charlotte Bland, Les Others, Vogue Living, Created By Topic, Lena Situations, Stevie Michaels, Lavinia Cernau... I'll stop here, I think.

10. What are your plans for the future regarding your Instagram account or anything else?

I will continue to share quality content, create more photo collections, write more inspiring articles and make shoots that respect my vision. In the near future, Angélique and I would like to create our own collections of organic, ethical and responsible clothing, a line of jewellery, a line of perfume, and finally home decor.
